mitt romney had 22 bites at this apple before coming to that podium last night. so is this a case of practice really is critical even if you're an eloquent public speaker like the president is? >> right. practice is very important. whether you're a tennis player or a celloist, you got to practice. if you want to be a good debater you have to practice. clearly the sessions the president had with john kerry filling in for mitt romney and his advisers they didn't serve the president well clearly because he wasn't ready for that debate last night. as i was watching it like anyone else watching it, i was saying to myself why isn't he going on the offensive? i moderated four obama debates in the last cycle four years ago including one-on-one debate at the kodak theater with hillary clinton and barack obama, one of their last debates before he won the democratic presidential nomination. you know, he wasn't a fabulous debater but he was solid and when he had to he went after her and went after john edwards and the other democratic candidates but over the past four years

romney when asked specifics wednesday night. president obama may get tough questions about how the white house has handled the aftermath of the libya killings. listen to senior campaign advisor david axelrod on "state of the union" with candy crowley. >> the president called it an act of terror the day after it happened but when you're the responsible party, when you're the administration, you have a responsibility to act on what you know and what the intelligence community believes. this is being thoroughly investigated. >> he's saying president obama as early as the morning after the attacks in benghazi identified the killings as an act of terror. in that rose garden speech that he's referring to, however, the president only mentions the word terror once, and it wasn't until the end of that speech. also, it comes after the president speaks in broad terms, mentioning 9/11 and the wars in iraq and afghanistan. you can decide for yourself if his one use of that word terror is directly defining what happened in benghazi. listen. >

i think that mitt romney did a great job last night, especially on the point saying, look. we need regulation. this is not a matter of no regulation versus regulation. we need some regulations but when you have 2,700 pages of a law that's basically going to codify too big to fail then you have got regulation that is are going to really hurt the economy and hurting small and community banks. he actually i think thought we nuanced in that answer and came off as pragmatic and problem solving so, again, soccer. i do disagree with john on that point. >> head shaking and smiling, the sign of a wonderful relationship. we have to leave it there. we'll continue another day. margaret, john, always, always a pleasure. >>> and now, let's talk about undecided voters. courting those undecided voters, president obama, mitt romney going all out to get their votes. stick around because my next guest says she knows where those undecided voters are and how the candidates can win them over. ou. so we invented a warning you can feel. introducing the all-new cadillac xts. available with a patent
